A Roaming Cloud, 2020. tonal transfers on hahnemuhle rag. 19 x 29 cm.

Roaming Cloud is an archive of virtual artefacts, tracing personal and cultural histories via Iphone images,

Google Street view captures and miscellaneous screenshots stored in the ICloud.
Forgotten digital minutia is reconstructed into 3 dimensional, virtual objects which chronicle the passive habituality and highly individualist practice of contemporary image making. With the advent of phone photography and the seemingly immaterial expanse of cloud storage, the frequency of image making has burgeoned
to an incalculable saturation. No longer tied to the material means of storage, the purpose of image making
has shifted; from an impulse to chronicle only the most significant personal and cultural events, to a throwaway role of timeliness and social utilitarianism.
Through the reappropriation of the neglected cloud archive, the ephemeral purpose, context and significance
of these throwaway images are reappraised. The artefacts of a digital footprint, striped of their context, beg to
have a speculative significance projected upon them.
